Replacing a crown on a cal 712 Constellation 167.0021

by Brendan O'Flaherty

I have an 18 carat solid yellow gold cal 712 Constellation 167.0021 and I need to replace the crown. I bought a genuine Omega crown from Ofrei I have removed the back of the watch. Do I need to replace the stem as well? How do I remove the stem from the movement so that I can screw off the old crown?

Thanks

Brendan

if the stem is in good condition then no need to replace

have a look at the stem. If no rust and condition is good then there is no need to replace. You will need some special tools to do the job. First, hold the stem in a pin vise and remove the old crown. then screw on the new crown. Be careful to make sure you are threading it straight. Don't tighten the crown down, before you check that it works with the crown by fitting it back to the watch and testing. If all is good you can firmly tighten the crown. If you have a locking fluid like blue locktite you can use that.
