Hi
I have read on the internet and on Ebay (more than once) about an Omega bumper watch. Why is it called - bumper watch? Is it the actual model name?

Thank you

Good question

The term Bumper automatic refers to the automatic movements from Omega which were very popular in the late 1930 to 1950's. In these Omega bumper watches the automatic charging of the mechanism is done through the movement of pendulum. When the pendulum reaches the end of the distance it can travel it bumps into a spring and stops. This bumping can be felt by the person wearing the watch and therefore these watches are often referred to as "bumper automatics"

Best wishes, OWEx
